one of those weekends - where all good things happen

One of those weekends where everything seem to bring a smile to my face,

Saturday was haircut, netball then rugby club, my daughter got a special mention about her trip to America and then they had this special draw where my husband got called up first and then my daughter got picked completely randomly, my daughter is a well known person down at the rugby club she loves watching the senior team and knows everyone of them names, the special draw is get a dart throw it a card on a board and win a prize, your only meant to have 2 goes at it, she kept missing it by just a little bit, anyway she was heading back to our table then all the seniors got behind her and said give her another turn and another turn she hit a card on the 4th turn and all the seniors let out a great big hooray, was so cool, she certainly is one very special girl.
Yesterday we had a reasonably quite one with a dance rehearsal then out for tea with the family and again it was a great night lots of laughs and just so lovely that the people there were there for her.

Today day 3 of the our long weekend and today is the day that my daughter flew out to America, I was very lucky in that one of the dance mums offered to take my son to his dance comp while we went out to the airport to see our daughter off, we got to the airport and there were a lot of very excited kids, few nerves as well as they were all going without their parents some had never flown, never been away from they families and also all have special needs, my daughter is rooming with a lovely girl who has never flown and never been away from her family, these 2 girls only meet last week but they are already inseparable, my daughter and her room mate both got interviewed for our local paper never thought anything so we got ready to say our goodbyes, now my daughter is not someone that cries willy nilly she is a very strong girl, but I think seeing her room mates mum upset then her room mate up set she started to cry which in turn set me off,  as I said a few days ago she had a double cochlear implant back in November and was all of a sudden really worried about the security walk thru thing going off as she walked thru, so seeing her struggle with that from a distance was quite hard but her career for the next 2 weeks did amazing with her and they went thru not a problem, they actually went thru really early so that was fantastic as my husband and I were then able to get to see our son dance in the NZD awards which was great.  Our son loves his dance and it was so cool that both my husband and I got to see him dance, watching the boys perform on stage is pure enjoyment as they thrive in the lights, it was long day but we stayed to the end to get the results and our boys won their division which was so cool, then to top it off my daughter made the paper online, so it really has been a great weekend.

just can't catch a break

So after what was a great post yesterday, I am back being a tad bit annoyed today.

2 weeks ago I took my car in to get fixed $1400 later, new Cam belt and various other things that needed doing due to wear and tear, started my car up this morning and it made a horrific noise, as I was doing school run I had 2 kids that I needed to get to school but I was really not comfortable driving my car, so back to the mechanic I went.
I understand that mechanics are just doing their job, but I find being a female I just feel like that take advantage a little bit as I know nothing about cars and neither does my husband, clearly the guy wasn't in a hurry to talk to me so he just meandered down to me at my car, kids starting to get a little bit worried that they were going to be late to school, he said pop the boot and start it up and of course the bloody car didn't make the noise, I even said to the kids the car was making a horrific sound ae? (thinking I am going mad, well I am already crazy but this sure didn't help)  they said it sure was.  Anyway the guy said can you leave it with us so we can see what's going on with it and we of course will give you a courtesy vehicle, sweet I thought I just need to get the kids to school and me to work as by this stage I was also running well past my start time, after what seemed ages standing in the freezing morning, the car finally rocks up, he said aw sorry you will need to put petrol in it and yes he sure was right as soon as I got behind the wheel the petrol light came on (come on really) he of course forgot to tell me what petrol to put in the bloody thing, so I get to the petrol station and ring them, finally $20 later normal service resumed.  Kids dropped off and I was about 15 mins late to work, and I hate being late, a very testing morning to say the least and this is all before 9am.

With my daughter heading away, seems I am the one left to do all the running around getting various things that she is going to need, yesterday was meds and plug adapter, today I am chasing up the cochlear implant people again as they said they were going to send out a magnet that she will need for her Aqua covers, I ask this to be done like 2 weeks ago and only just remembered this morning that I still hadn't seen it, s at lunchtime I am off to go get the magnet.  So much running around, but hey it is what we do as parents I guess.

I got asked today what I had planned for the weekend, and I realised all I am doing is more running around, from Haircuts to Sports to Dance Rehearsals to competitions to airport  just as well I love my children.

First day of winter so its only 3 weeks till the shortest day (yah) and 3 months and it is Spring, crazy to think we are already half way thru the year, I swear every year goes faster every year.

Happy Friday and long weekend to everyone, I am hoping to find at little bit of time to do some more colouring in, hubby out tonight so it could be a great night to stay in and colour, keep warm and safe and look after one another

Its been a while

Wow, trying to remember the last time I took some time out to reflect, looks like its been well over a year.

So much has happened I just don't even know where to begin.  I think the biggest news is my daughter had a double cochlear implant at the end of last year all funded, still can't get my head around it if she was a few years older she would of had to wait 4 years for a single impant, so from being told on the 4 September she was being put forward as a candidate for this to being operated on for 4 hours on the 23 November was absolutely mind bloggling, and even watching the process form when she got switched on to now and I can honestly say what  life changing thing this has been for her, I actually never realised how much she didn't talk until about 1 month after the operation.  The change and confidence in her has been amazing.  we sent her on a deaf camp at the start of this year and I can honestly say after a week was incredible never one to admit she is deaf, never wanting to learn sign language she came back signing, proud to be deaf and I think realising that she isn't alone in this world, she made friends with people like her and know what she goes thru on a daily basis.  I am the first to admit I don't know how hard it is for her but I do know what a challenge it has been for her and it so great for her to know she isn't alone.

We got a phone call back in February and she has been given an incredible opportunity thru Koru Care and is actually going to America next week for a 2 week holiday visiting Disneyland, Universal Studios, Nottsberry Farm, Hard Rock Cafe(original) to name a few things. As a way of paying it forward and a thank you for everything she has received  we decided to do a Fundraising Quiz afternoon and again the incredible generosity of people not knowing her, the prizes we got were amazing, we were able to raise 2k for Koru so that again was great   If you ever get a chance to offer money to any deserving charities please do as the work that these volunteers undertake is beyond words.  I actually still can't believe that this time next week she will be in America.

My son has also been very humble over the fact his big sister is going and he isn't,  and like I said to him as much as I wished we were all going as a family it just isn't meant to be. I wish could wave a magic wand and all of us be going somewhere but that isn't going to happen, but hey we got a roof over our heads and food on the table so we are doing alright.

I have become a Youth Leader for St John and love the fact that I am giving back a little bit more to our community, I have been trying to get more involved with the Ambulance and Events side of things and after what has been a long but patient wait I finally have the next step meeting next week, so all going well the next part of that journey is goong to begin, and hopefully a few more doors are going to open, working full time the journey is going to take a while but lots of people do it and I hope that  I will be one of those people that will do it well.  Looking forward to writing down this journey so watch this space, I will apologize now if I go over board with it  lol.

A few exciting things on the go my son has got another dance comp this weekend too his 3rd one with his dance squad, and he is desperate to get a solo so hopefully his teacher will give him a chance to follow his dream.
Another thing I have started again is my card making and colouring find this really relaxing at the end of the night, get to go off in my own wee world and create things.  Just started doing the colouring in thing again as I have run out of people to make cards for.  Loved this creation I did yesterday

Have a great day and look after one another cause you never know what is around the corner

what a week

So this week has been pretty horrible, my hubby starting off not feeling very well and has gradually working its way thru the whole family.  I have had to take a couple days off on sick leave, (no
