So much has happened I just don't even know where to begin. I think the biggest news is my daughter had a double cochlear implant at the end of last year all funded, still can't get my head around it if she was a few years older she would of had to wait 4 years for a single impant, so from being told on the 4 September she was being put forward as a candidate for this to being operated on for 4 hours on the 23 November was absolutely mind bloggling, and even watching the process form when she got switched on to now and I can honestly say what life changing thing this has been for her, I actually never realised how much she didn't talk until about 1 month after the operation. The change and confidence in her has been amazing. we sent her on a deaf camp at the start of this year and I can honestly say after a week was incredible never one to admit she is deaf, never wanting to learn sign language she came back signing, proud to be deaf and I think realising that she isn't alone in this world, she made friends with people like her and know what she goes thru on a daily basis. I am the first to admit I don't know how hard it is for her but I do know what a challenge it has been for her and it so great for her to know she isn't alone.
We got a phone call back in February and she has been given an incredible opportunity thru Koru Care and is actually going to America next week for a 2 week holiday visiting Disneyland, Universal Studios, Nottsberry Farm, Hard Rock Cafe(original) to name a few things. As a way of paying it forward and a thank you for everything she has received we decided to do a Fundraising Quiz afternoon and again the incredible generosity of people not knowing her, the prizes we got were amazing, we were able to raise 2k for Koru so that again was great If you ever get a chance to offer money to any deserving charities please do as the work that these volunteers undertake is beyond words. I actually still can't believe that this time next week she will be in America.
My son has also been very humble over the fact his big sister is going and he isn't, and like I said to him as much as I wished we were all going as a family it just isn't meant to be. I wish could wave a magic wand and all of us be going somewhere but that isn't going to happen, but hey we got a roof over our heads and food on the table so we are doing alright.
I have become a Youth Leader for St John and love the fact that I am giving back a little bit more to our community, I have been trying to get more involved with the Ambulance and Events side of things and after what has been a long but patient wait I finally have the next step meeting next week, so all going well the next part of that journey is goong to begin, and hopefully a few more doors are going to open, working full time the journey is going to take a while but lots of people do it and I hope that I will be one of those people that will do it well. Looking forward to writing down this journey so watch this space, I will apologize now if I go over board with it lol.
A few exciting things on the go my son has got another dance comp this weekend too his 3rd one with his dance squad, and he is desperate to get a solo so hopefully his teacher will give him a chance to follow his dream.
Another thing I have started again is my card making and colouring find this really relaxing at the end of the night, get to go off in my own wee world and create things. Just started doing the colouring in thing again as I have run out of people to make cards for. Loved this creation I did yesterday
